Muskoka, known for its natural beauty, became home to a unique and innovative floating sauna, Floathaus. The customer approached NyDock with a vision to create a floating dock that would support a sauna while offering extra space for seating and a netted hammock section for lounging with lakefront views.
NyDock was tasked with designing a custom floating dock that would be sturdy enough to support the sauna's weight, while providing enough space for relaxation and enjoyment. Here's how the project unfolded, from the initial design to its successful completion.
Project Goal
The goal of this project was to design a floating sauna platform capable of supporting a sauna while also providing ample space for additional features such as seating and a netted hammock section, facing out to the lake for optimal lounging. This dock would serve as the foundation for Muskoka's floating sauna, Floathaus.
Our Process
Initial Consultation and Information Gathering: The customer approached NyDock with their vision for creating a floating sauna on Muskoka’s pristine waters. We began by discussing their specific goals, such as the need for the dock to hold the weight of a sauna and accommodate extra space for seating and a hammock area. We also needed to determine the number of people the dock would likely hold at one time and understand their expectations for seating capacity and comfort.
Design and Calculations: We collected detailed information about the sauna, including its dimensions and weight. This allowed us to accurately calculate the floatation requirements for the dock. With these specifications in mind, we designed a custom solution that would include the sauna’s footprint, ample seating areas, and a hammock lounge section that would provide stunning lake views.
Approval and Customization: After finalizing the design, we created a detailed drawing of the floating dock, which included all necessary features and dimensions. This drawing was sent to the customer for approval. Once the design was approved, we proceeded with work orders for manufacturing the dock to specification.
Building and Delivery: Our team began building the floating dock to the precise design specifications. Once the construction was complete, we delivered the dock to the customer’s location. The dock was then set into position, and the customer’s sauna was installed atop the dock, completing the floating sauna experience.
